Specialist radiometric monitoring equipment is installed in a vehicle which can
be driven around electrical substation equipment to monitor the radio frequency
spectrum. Unique aspects of the signature are used to identify partial discharges.
A typical measurement sequence involves calibrating the system and driving around
a site to complete a full area scan. If a source of discharge is found, data will
be recorded and compared with an extensive database of faults. A report detailing
the findings and a view on how to proceed based on our knowledge and experience
is produced within 48 hours. If the client is subscribed to our online service,
the report is published on the secure website which can be accessed 24/7/365.
Inspection of a single plant item can be accomplished within a day and can be performed
with the equipment in live operation and therefore minimal disturbances. The non-invasive
system means no equipment is connected to the plant under investigation. When in
the presence of several sources the equipment locates the origin of the fault in
three dimensions.
